HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green men's golf team opened the first round of the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday at Montcalm Golf Club.
Eli Kimche was one of only four players in a field of 60 to hit under-par on the opening 18 and heads into Sunday with the tournament's best score.
Dartmouth had 10 athletes in action on Saturday. The Big Green's "B" team, which consisted of
Aaron Zhang,
Cameron Keith,
Eli Thrasher,
Fin Szafnauer and
Charles Petrie, ended the day ranked second in a field of nine teams. This team trailed only Siena in the field at 13-over par (301).
The Big Green's other squad of Kimche,
Mark Turner,
Alex Gu,
Justin Lee and
Charlie Baker, concluded the first round tied for third in the field at 17-over par (305), alongside Seton Hall.
Kimche led the field of 60 players after play was finished on Saturday, as the Park City, Utah native ended his day at 2-under par (70). He was one of just four golfers to hit under par during the first round. Turner finished his day at 1-over par (73), ties for sixth in the field. Both Kimche and Turner recorded eagles on the par-5 11th.
Thrasher built upon his performance last week to finish with the ninth-best score on Saturday at 2-over par (74). A pair of freshmen, Zhang and Szafnauer, sit just behind Thrasher with a score of 75 (+3) following round one, as both recorded four birdies.
Petrie played consistently throughout the first round and is tied for 14th with a score of 77 (+5) Baker recorded 12 pars on the day, tied for the most for any individual on Saturday. Gu heads into Sunday tied for 22nd (79, +7). Keith made his debut for the Big Green, hitting 1-over par on the final nine holes to end his round with a score of 81 (+9).
The second and final round of the Dartmouth Invitational begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
