HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team is set to open its 2023 spring season Saturday as the Big Green host Navy at Boss Tennis Center. The opening match begins at 8:30 a.m. and another follows at 1 p.m.
LOOKING BACK AT THE FALL
One of several highlights in Dartmouth's successful fall slate was
Hikaru Takeda's ITA Super Regionals run. The sophomore had to win three straight matches just to secure a spot on the region's biggest stage and once he was there, Takeda marched on to the quarterfinals with wins over a pair of fellow Ivy Leaguers.
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez,
Anders Gibbons and
Dominik Pauli also represented Dartmouth at the ITA Super Regional.
Guerrero Alvarez's win over reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Penn's Edoardo Graziani, marked an exciting start to the fall at the Penn Invitational. The fall season closed in the final week of October at the Halloween Invite, where freshman
Waleed Qadir went undefeated through three singles matches.
NEWCOMERS
Miles Groom (Buckinghamshire, England),
Waleed Qadir (Apex, N.C.) and
Henry Ren (Vancouver, British Columbia) make up a globally diverse Class of 2026 that look to make immediate contributions.
CAPTAINS
Senior
Alejandro Quiles and junior
Logan Chang will serve as co-captains for the Big Green. Quiles fills the role for a second consecutive year, while Chang earned captain status for the first time.
SEASON OPENERS
Dartmouth has won eight straight spring season openers dating back to 2014. The Big Green started the 2022 spring campaign with wins over Binghamton, Bryant and Fordham to start 3-0 for a fourth straight season.
THE SPRING SCHEDULE
Five straight home matches, plus a scrimmage against Harvard, precede a trip to Big Ten country as Dartmouth squares off with Purdue and Indiana in early February. After hosting the ECAC Indoor Championships, the Big Green play eight more non-conference matches, including visits to Belmont, Middle Tennessee, Elon and UNC Wilmington, before hosting Harvard for the Ivy League opener on Saturday, April 1. The regular season concludes Sunday, April 23 at Penn.
