HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to Clarkson, 5-4, on Saturday evening in ECAC Hockey action at Thompson Arena. Dartmouth moves to 2-15-1, 1-9-1 while Clarkson improves to 10-9-3, 4-4-2.
Cooper Flinton and
Tucker McRae both finished with one goal and one assist. McRae's goal was the first of his career.
Alex Krause scored for the second straight night and
Sean Chisholm scored the other goal for the Big Green.
Tanner Palocsik finished with two assists while
Cam MacDonald and
Joey Musa each had one assist.
Cooper Black made 30 saves in goal.
The Golden Knights had five different goal scorers, led by Ayrton Martino and Anthony Romano who both finished with one goal and one assist. Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup had two assists.
Clarkson jumped out to an early lead just 1:19 minutes into the game when Trey Taylor fired one in to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead. They extended the lead midway through the period on a goal from Romano.
The Big Green cut into the deficit minutes later.
Cooper Flinton got the puck with space in the offensive zone and ripped a shot into the top left corner past Clarkson goaltender Ethan Haider for his third goal of the season.
Clarkson scored the first three goals in the second period, including a short-handed goal, to take a 5-1 lead.
Dartmouth chipped away at the deficit just 90 seconds later when Chisholm scored his third goal of the year. Chisholm redirected a shot-pass from Palocsik through the five-hole of Haider from just outside the crease.
The Big Green struck again in the final minute of the middle frame. McRae ripped a shot from the point through the Clarkson defense and past Haider for his first collegiate goal, bringing Dartmouth within two.
Dartmouth carried the momentum into the final period, putting the pressure on the Golden Knights. With just over six minutes remaining, Palocsik took a shot from the right side that was initially saved by Haider. Krause crashed the goal for the rebound, which landed perfectly in his path to smash in from just outside the crease.
The Big Green pulled Black in the final few minutes as they looked to complete the comeback.
Ian Pierce took several shots in the waning seconds, but his efforts were thwarted by the Golden Knights.
Clarkson held a 35-22 shots on goal advantage while the Big Green had a slight edge in faceoffs, 34-27.
Dartmouth hits the road next weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey and Ivy League matchups at Brown and Yale. Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
