HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team remained unbeaten in 2023 with a clean 7-0 sweep over Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Alexis Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green improved their record to 5-0, marking the second time in the last three seasons Dartmouth has been perfect through five matches.
"Credit to Fordham, who pushed us in doubles today and fought hard in singles," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "Our guys did a good job to find solutions and come away with the doubles point. That helped us loosen up a bit and play more on our terms in singles today."
Dartmouth picked up the doubles point for a fourth straight match with wins from
Waleed Qadir and
Miles Groom on the top court and
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and
Hikaru Takeda at the No. 3 position sealing the early edge. The freshman duo of Qadir and Groom is 4-0 at No. 1 doubles this season.
All six singles victories for the Big Green came in two-set fashion.
Alex Knox-Jones,
Henry Ren and
Hikaru Takeda each improved to 4-0 on the season in singles, while Qadir's record grew to 3-0. Guerrero Alvarez has been perfect at No. 1 singles since falling in the season opener.
Following the win, Dartmouth hits the road to take on Purdue Saturday, Feb. 4. The Big Green will battle another Big Ten foe, Indiana, the following day.
"We are going to enjoy this win for today and then quickly start preparing for our first road trip of the winter season next weekend," Centenari added.
