WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Still undefeated, the Dartmouth men's tennis team rolled to a 5-2 win over Purdue on the road Saturday afternoon. The Big Green earned the doubles point for a fifth straight match and used four singles wins to close out the victory over their Big Ten opponent.
Following the win, Dartmouth is off to a 6-0 start for the second time in the last three seasons. Purdue dropped to 1-5 on the season.
Waleed Qadir and
Miles Groom, who have yet to lose through five matches on the top doubles court, gave the Big Green a strong start with a 6-0 victory over Purdue's Michal Wozniak and Tomasz Dudek. Alex-Knox Jones and
Logan Chang earned a 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 position to secure the point.
Singles wins came from
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, Groom,
Henry Ren and
Hikaru Takeda. Groom's victory at the No. 2 position gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead before
Hikaru Takeda extended the team's advantage on Court 5. Ren clinched the win for Dartmouth at No. 4. Guerrero Alvarez tacked on another point for the unbeaten Big Green with a three-set win on the top court. Ren and Takeda both improved to 5-0 on the season in singles play.
The road trip concludes on Sunday as Dartmouth battles Indiana at 11 a.m.
