BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —The Dartmouth men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2023 season in a 5-2 decision against Indiana Sunday afternoon at IU Tennis Center. The loss to the Hoosiers marked the end of the team's first road trip of the winter, which began with Saturday's win over Purdue.
"I'm really proud of the guys this weekend," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "It's not easy coming into two different Big Ten facilities and battling as confidently and calmly as we did. The guys really embraced a raucous Indiana crowd and credit to them for bringing the awesome energy to the facility."
Miles Groom and
Waleed Qadir, undefeated as doubles partners this season, battled in a close match at the No. 1 position, but were unable to finish as Indiana earned wins on the remaining courts, including a three-set victory at No. 3 over
Hikaru Takeda and
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez.
Henry Ren and
Hikaru Takeda prevailed at No. 4 and 5 singles respectively as both improved to 5-0 on the season in singles play. "After a competitive doubles point, we came out well in singles on all courts," Centenari added. "We need to work a bit on maintaining the intensity and focus into hours three and four of dual matches. Great effort in competing this weekend and looking forward to the next opportunity at home."
The Big Green return to Alexis Boss Tennis Center to host the ECAC Indoor Championship beginning Friday, Feb. 17.
