HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – Reid Cashman, the Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey, helped guide team USA to a bronze medal at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.
USA defeated Sweden, 8-7, in overtime on Thursday evening in the bronze medal game. The U.S. finished the tournament with a 4-1-0-2 record which brought team USA its 14
th tournament medal.
"I am extremely grateful to have been able to coach team USA in the World Juniors," said Cashman. "It was an honor to coach these young men and watch them perform at such a high level in front of raucous crowds. Proud that we finished the tournament the right way by beating Sweden and bringing home a medal."

The U.S. held a 1-0 lead after the first period, followed by a combined nine goals in the second to go into the final frame tied at 5-5. After Sweden took a 6-5 lead, the U.S. responded to tie the game and take the lead with a power play goal with 1:37 remaining. Sweden pulled its goaltender and tied the game with 21.4 left in regulation. 2:06 into overtime, the U.S. took the victory when Chaz Lucius (Manitoba Moose - AHL) scored his third goal of the night.

USA finished the preliminary round as the top seed in Group B. The U.S. defeated Latvia in the opening game, 5-2. They fell to Slovakia, 6-3, in their next game, but closed out the opening round with wins over Switzerland (5-1) and Finland (6-1).

After the preliminary round, USA topped Germany, 11-1, in the quarterfinals, setting up the semifinal game against Canada. Canada took the win, 6-2, sending USA to the bronze medal game.
