NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Dartmouth women's golf team finally got to play at the Yale Invitational after rain canceled the first two rounds and placed second for the second straight tournament, carding a 10-over 298. Sophomore
Sophie Thai paced the Big Green with a 1-over 73, tying for sixth in the 72-player field.
Host Yale beat out the nine visiting teams to take home the title at 5-over par while Penn and Boston University both matched Dartmouth's total to tie for second. Harvard came in fifth with a 12-over 300.
Thai began the shotgun start on the 6,085-yard, par-72 Yale Golf Course with a bogey on the seventh hole, then quickly rebounded with nine pars and two birdies on th next 11 holes. Three straight bogeys on the first three holes dropped her to 2-over, but she added one final birdie on the sixth to close out her round.
Finishing just one stroke behind Thai was freshman
Caroline Chung tied for eighth with a 74 (+2) thanks to leading the 72-player field with 16 pars. Sophomore
Hope Hall added a 3-over 75 to the Big Green total with 13 pars and a birdie to tie for 15th, while senior
Penelope Tir produced the lone eagle of the day in a roller-coaster round that also featured three birdies before wrapping up the day tied for 22nd with a 4-over 76.
Christy Chen of BU and Joanne Lee of Yale shared medalist honors with a 2-under 70.
Dartmouth will play its final tournament of the fall next week at the Quinnipiac Classic in Wallingford, Connecticut. The first round will begin on Monday, Oct. 9 at The Farms Club.
