HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team picked up a point in the Ivy League standings after playing to a 1-1 draw against Columbia on Sunday afternoon at Burnham Field.
Dartmouth moves to 7-1-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the Ivy League while Columbia now sits at 7-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Ancient Eight.
"Proud of the effort. I think it's our third game in eight days so we could tell that legs were heavy for both sides," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Taylor Schram. "It's a top 25 team [in Columbia] and to get a point in this league when the standings are this tight, every point matters for us. Really proud of the effort across the board."
The Lions opened the scoring at the 13-minute mark of the first half. Kat Jordan received the ball in the midfield, before advancing into the space in front of her to just outside the Big Green 18-yard box. Jordan struck a left-footed shot to the top right corner over the out-stretched hand of Dartmouth goalkeeper
Emily Hardy and into the net to give Columbia a 1-0 lead.
The lead lasted for 12 and a half minutes as the Big Green equalized in the 26
th minute through
Daisy Granholm.
Hannah Curtin had the ball down the right wing and played it further forward to
Hailey Rorick. Rorick crossed the ball into the box, and Granholm got high above the Columbia defense and headed the ball to the top left corner to tie the game with her third goal of the year.
The Lions had nearly doubled their lead before the equalizer, but Nata Ramirez's shot hit off the crossbar. Columbia struck the crossbar once again, this time early in the second half through Jordan.
"It was a really hard-fought battle. We did what we had to," said senior forward
Daisy Granholm. "It wasn't necessarily pretty all the time, but we came out with a result and that's what we had to do."
Dartmouth hits the road next Saturday for an Ivy League contest at Penn. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Penn Park and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet. Live stats will be available through DartmouthSports.com.
Notes: After four games of conference play, the Big Green sit fourth in the league standings.
