PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Penn on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Quakers took the lead early in the contest, but the Big Green tied the game in the second half to earn a point in the Ivy League standings.
Dartmouth moves to 7-1-5 overall and 2-1-2 in the Ancient Eight while Penn is now 5-6-2 overall and 0-3-2 in league play.
Penn opened the scoring in the 16
th minute off a deflection that worked in its favor. A clearance from the Big Green hit off a Penn forward, and the ball bounced around into the middle of the pitch just outside the Dartmouth 18-yard box. Magali Capdevila took advantage and hit a right-footed shot from outside the box to the bottom right corner of the net to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead.
The Big Green found the tying goal early in the second half. Some great ball movement from Dartmouth ended with
Hannah Curtin with possession out on the right wing. Curtin dribbled towards the box before pushing it back down towards the end line. Just as the ball was about to go out of bounds for a Penn goal kick, Curtin was able to hit a hard driven pass along the ground back towards the penalty spot. The slippery conditions helped the ball get through and
Aleena Seales met the ball for the first-time strike into the back of the net for her first goal of the year.
The Quakers nearly regained the lead with just under five minutes remaining. A shot from Capdevila inside the Dartmouth box was blocked by defender
Taylor Williams to keep the game level.
Dartmouth had nine shots on goal to Penn's seven.
Emily Hardy made four saves for the Big Green while Laurence Gladu made eight saves for the Quakers.
Dartmouth returns to Burnham Field next Saturday for its final home game of the regular season. The Big Green will host Princeton that afternoon for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
