HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Princeton, 2-0, in Ivy League action at Burnham Field.
Â
Dartmouth moves to 7-2-5 overall and 2-2-2 in league play while Princeton improves to 9-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.
Â
The Tigers scored twice in the final few minutes of the opening half. Pietra Tordin scored a penalty kick in the 43
rd minute after a handball was called against the Big Green. Tordin scored her second of the match with just over one second remaining in the half after heading in a cross from Heather McNab.
Â
Princeton nearly added to their lead after receiving another penalty kick, this time in the 70
th minute. Tordin stepped up to take the spot kick looking to complete the hat trick, but
Emily Hardy came up big, making the diving stop to her left to keep the deficit to two.
Â
Just a few minutes prior, Hardy made an acrobatic stop on a shot from Marissa Hart. Hart received the ball at the top of the box, made a few moves to create some space before shooting it to the top right corner. Hardy made the full extension effort to tip the ball over the bar and out for a corner.
Â
Princeton nearly took the lead in the 19
th minute when Lily Bryant's shot from just outside the box struck the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.
Â
Carly Retterer went for goal on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 76
th minute, but Princeton goalkeeper Tyler McCamey made the stop.
Â
Hardy put in another stellar performance in goal for the Big Green, making nine saves, her second-highest total of the season.
Â
Dartmouth heads to Brown next Saturday for the regular season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
Â
With Brown, Harvard and Princeton claiming spots in the Ivy League tournament, the final spot is still up for grabs and will come down to next weekend. With Dartmouth and Columbia tied on eight points and playing to a 1-1 draw against each other earlier this season, the Big Green will need to have a better result than Columbia to earn a spot or will need some help from the other games. Full scenarios will be posted in the coming days.
