PRINCETON, N.J. – Izee Powell and
Shae Messner both tallied goals to give the Dartmouth women's hockey team a 2-1 lead going into the third period, but Princeton scored four goals in the final frame to claim a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Dartmouth moves to 2-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in ECAC Hockey while Princeton improves to 4-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.
The Tigers tied the game at 2-2 just under two minutes into the third period when Issy Wunder scored on the power play. Princeton tallied three more goals, including another power play goal, over the remainder of the period to take the win.
After a scoreless first period, Dartmouth outscored Princeton 2-1 in the second period. Powell opened the scoring 3:46 into the period, with
Jenna Donohue picking up the assist. Powell's shot initially looked like it was saved, but the momentum carried the puck into the back of the net to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
Sarah Paul scored for Princeton just moments later to tie the game. The Big Green regained the lead later in the period, taking advantage of a 5v3 power play opportunity.
Laura Fuoco won the faceoff, leading to Donohue getting a clean look at goal. Donohue's shot was saved, but Messner followed up on the loose puck to smash into the net to give Dartmouth the 2-1 lead.
Eleanor Rogers made 31 saves in goal while the Big Green blocked 19 shots, led by
Annie King's four.
Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena next weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey matchups. The Big Green take on Colgate on Friday evening at 6 p.m. before playing host to Cornell at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
