HANOVER, N.H. — Singles victories from
Henry Ren and
Miles Groom were not enough for the Dartmouth men's tennis team in a 5-2 loss to No. 11 Columbia on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Outdoor Courts.
"We had a bit of a slow start in doubles, but a solid response from the guys in singles," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "We led on several courts and the guys battled hard through the end. It was great for a couple guys to come away with wins today as Miles put up a point to quickly tie the match and Henry came through at No. 3 to give us some momentum heading into tomorrow."
Dartmouth wasn't able to claim the doubles point, although
Waleed Qadir and Groom held a 5-4 advantage at the No. 1 position and were serving for the match when play halted.
Ren picked up his team-best 14th win of the season, and his second at the No. 2 position, over Columbia's Roko Horvat in three-set fashion. Groom, like Ren, is a winner of two of his last three matches after downing Hugo Hashimoto on Court 3 in two sets.
"The guys are ready to build on this effort and are excited for the opportunity tomorrow," Centenari added.
The Big Green end the weekend by hosting No. 36 Cornell on Sunday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
