HANOVER, N.H. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) today announced its Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Teams. Dartmouth had five student-athletes selected for the honor – seniors
Jake Dalton,
Eric Gibson and
Seth Weprin and juniors
Rahul Batlanki and
Will Daley.
A student-athlete is not required to compete in all three sports (cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field) to be nominated. To be included, a student-athlete must participate in 50 percent in any of the three sports and must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. The quintet will now go on the ballot for CSC Academic All-America consideration with the first-, second-, and third-team honorees being announced on June 29.
Dalton, an environmental studies major from Andover, Mass. with a 3.58 GPA, had quite the year for the Big Green in the hammer throw. He broke the program record for the event on multiple occasions with his top mark coming in at 65.39m at the Duke Invitational in early April. Dalton won the New England championship in the event earlier this month and took second at the Ivy League Championships to earn Second-Team All-Ivy honors. An Academic All-Ivy honoree for the outdoor season, Dalton competed in the hammer throw at the NCAA East Regional where he finished 26
th.
Hailing from Annapolis, Md., Gibson is a computer science major with a 3.71 GPA. Gibson ran a leg for the distance medley relay (DMR) that took first as well as finishing second in the 1000m race at the BU Scarlet and White Invite in February. Gibson earned two podium finishes for the Big Green at the Ivy League indoor championships, taking fifth in both the 1000m race and 4x800m relay.
From Dallas, Texas, Weprin is a government and religion double major with a 3.98 GPA. No stranger to academic awards, he was named a CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection in 2021-22. Weprin is a two-time Academic All-Ivy honoree this year in cross country and indoor track and field. He won the New England cross country championship this past fall before helping the Big Green earn the bronze in the DMR at the Ivy League indoor track and field championships.
An economics major with a 3.67 GPA from Flower Mound, Texas, Batlanki closed out his season by taking third in long jump and triple jump at the New England championships. Earlier in the outdoor season, he won the triple jump at the Duke Invitational and the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational.
Rounding out the honorees, Daley performed well for Dartmouth during the cross country season. He posted a 16
th-place finish at the NCAA East Regional to earn All-Region honors. Daley was recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete for his performance on the course and in the classroom. A Denver, Colo. native, Daley boasts a 3.96 GPA as a biomedical engineering major.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team recognizes the nation's top student-athlete for their combined performances in sport and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes track and field honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
