HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth lightweight rowing team travels to New Jersey this weekend for the IRA National Regatta at Mercer Lake. The Big Green are coming off a successful day at Eastern Sprints, which saw Dartmouth win two petite finals (1V and 3V) and send one boat to the grand final (2V).
"The Dartmouth lightweights are thrilled to have their first bid to the IRA National Championships in nearly 10 years," said interim head
Trevor Michelson. "The team has been hard at work the last three weeks gearing up for the regatta, and I am excited to see where we stack up when racing begins on Friday."
The Big Green sent one boat to nationals a year ago, picking up the bronze medal in Varsity 4+. They finished third with a time of 6:26.567.
The 2V boat for Dartmouth kicks things off on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. in Heat 1. The 1V is scheduled to begin racing at 9:00 a.m. in Heat 2 in the Men's Collegiate Lightweight Varsity 8+. The Big Green's 4+ boat starts with a time trial on Friday morning at 11:38.
Dartmouth will need to finish in the top three of the first varsity to qualify for the grand final on Sunday. In the lightweight four, the time trail will seed the boats for the semifinals in the afternoon, from which the top three of each of the two heats will qualify for the grand final.
