FOLSOM, Calif. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship kicked off today on Lake Natoma, as Dartmouth's lightweight rowing team competed in four total races.

The Big Green's 2V kicked off racing Friday morning, rowing to a third-place finish in their heat, posting a time of 6:02.19. Dartmouth finished behind Princeton (5:53.39) and Harvard (5:53.84).

Dartmouth's Varsity Eight finished just under two seconds out of first in their heat, posting a time of 5:50.01, finishing only behind the Princeton Tigers. The Big Green were just under five tenths of a second ahead of MIT (5:50.50) and also finished before Yale and Navy.

Lightweight rowing's Varsity 4 also saw action on Friday, competing in both the time trial and semifinal, the final race of the day. In the time trial, the Big Green finished in 6:44.54, the final team to finish.

In the semifinal, the Big Green rowed against fellow Ivy Leagues Princeton and Cornell as well as Mercyhurst and Georgetown, posting a time of 6:56.56.
