Five student-athletes were recognized
Romeo Myrthil garnered the Alvin F. "Doggie" Julian Award for spirit and enthusiasm. Myrthil's energy is palpable in whatever he does, both on and off the court. When he hit the floor in 2022-23, he made his presence felt, which included double-figure scoring efforts against CSU Bakersfield (11 points), at South Florida (11) and vs. Princeton (12). Myrthil saw significant minutes during many periods, including down the stretch as he averaged more than 20 minutes per game over the final five contests. For the year, Myrthil averaged 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds, dishing 23 assists.
Dusan Neskovic received the Rudy LaRusso '59 Award as the most improved player. After averaging 1.8 points as a sophomore, he upped that total to 12.2, which was third on the Big Green, while also averaging 3.3 rebounds. Neskovic scored in double figures 15 times, including the first four and final five games of the season. He eclipsed 20 points at Fordham (23), at Yale (24), at Princeton (24) and against Princeton (21), helping the Big Green to two of their biggest wins of the season (at Yale and home vs. eventual Ivy League Champion and Sweet 16 qualifier Princeton). Neskovic was named to the Academic All-District® Team for his success on the court and in the classroom.
A pair of student-athletes — Cam Krystkowiak and Brandon Mitchell-Day — were named co winners of the John P. Di Iorio '56 Award for hustle, drive and determination. Krystkowiak ended his Dartmouth career with his best season, playing in 26 games with 18 starts (both career highs) and averaging 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. He started all 14 games in Ivy League play, providing a strong presence on both ends of the court, which included plenty of selfless acts such as taking numerous charges. Krystkowiak scored double-figure points four times, including the final two games at Penn and vs. Harvard, when he scored a combined 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting.Â
Meanwhile, Mitchell-Day immediately impacted the Big Green during his rookie season, scoring a team-high 18 points in the home opener vs. Bryant and nearly carrying Dartmouth to a comeback victory. He would leave it on the floor all season, averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds for the year. He scored double-figure points four times in the Ivy League, highlighted by 17 at Princeton.
The Big Green excelled early in Ivy League play, which included one stretch of winning three-of-four and four-of-seven. Dartmouth ended up beating the top three seeds in the standings, and is still the only team to win at Yale. The Big Green were in contention for Ivy Madness until the second-to-last weekend, winning six league games for a second straight season – the first time that's happened since 1995-96 and 1996-97.
