Football and Golf are neck-and-neck for top honors this week.
The Big Green hit the road this past week with two athletes coming home with career highs in their respective sports. Senior Katherine Sung led the women's golf team to a second-place finish at Princeton while tying for medalist honors, shooting a 4-under-67. Meanwhile, across the state the football team opened the 2023 season at No. 11 UNH. Senior Paxton Scott set career highs in receptions and receiving yards.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Â
Katherine Sung, Sr., Palo Alto, Calif., Women's Golf
Â
Sung led the charge on a historic day for the women's golf team on Sunday, helping the Big Green set numerous records as the team climbed from fifth place into second in the third and final round of the Princeton Invitational. The senior co-captain played a bogey-free round while sinking four birdies to set the program single-round record with a 4-under 67 and tied for medalist honors with a 2-under 211, just the second time a Dartmouth player finished under par in a tournament spanning three rounds. That performance allowed Dartmouth to shoot 9-under 275 as a team for the round, shattering the old team record for lowest score by 13 strokes (set the previous day). It was also the first time the Big Green finished a round under par with their previous best effort being 2-over par, carded just five months ago on April 8. Finally, the team's 14-over 866 bested the program records for a three-round tournament of a 16-over par 880 posted last fall.

Â
Paxton Scott, Sr., Dallas, Texas, WR, Football
Â
Scott had a career game at 11th-ranked New Hampshire in the football team's season opener on Saturday night, setting personal highs in both receptions (10) and receiving yards (153) while also becoming the 24th player in Big Green history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a career. His biggest play of the game came shortly before the end of the third quarter when he caught a pass about 15 yards downfield and sprinted down the sideline for a 69-yard gain down to the Wildcat 10, setting up the lone Dartmouth touchdown of the game. And the 153 receiving yards were the most for a Big Green player since Drew Estrada had 193 against Brown in the final game of the 2019 season.
