Lundregan’s Second Half Goal Gives Big Green Third-Straight Victory

Dartmouth only allowed two shots on goal en route to another clean sheet
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Mary Lundregan scored her first collegiate goal early in the second half to lead the Dartmouth women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Merrimack on Sunday afternoon in North Andover, Massachusetts. The Big Green have now won three straight games by a score of 1-0.
"It was a hard-fought win on the road," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer Taylor Schram. "It wasn't our best performance as far as possession is concerned, but we were able to show a lot of fight to scrap out a tough win on the road."
The lone goal of the match came in the 53rd minute of play. The Warriors cleared the ball out of their box and out for a throw in. Lundregan quickly found Audrey Marin, who directed into the path of Lundregan as she stepped onto the pitch. Lundregan took a touch before hitting a left-footed strike towards goal. The ball looped over the head of Merrimack goalkeeper Roo Sawyer and hit off the far post into the back of the net to put the Big Green ahead, 1-0.
Emily Hardy made two saves in the contest to earn her third-straight clean sheet. Merrimack had one shot on goal in each half, with both coming from outside the box.
The Dartmouth defense only allowed two shots over the final 10 minutes of the game, blocking both to keep Merrimack from finding the equalizer.
The Big Green (3-0-1) held a 4-2 shots on goal advantage over the Warriors (1-3-1). Merrimack had the edge in corners, 6-1.
Senior defender Taylor Williams said, "I'm definitely happy we got the win. The first half was a little rough, we came out slow and they were beating us to 50-50 balls. We came together at halftime and talked about grit and winning 50-50 balls and showing that we deserve to win this game."
Dartmouth travels to Boston College on Thursday evening for a non-conference matchup against the Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ACC Network Extra.
