BIG GREEN AIM TO USE SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND AS MOMENTUM IN LEAGUE PLAY
After stringing together strong defensive games and finding consistency against No. 11 Princeton and No. 6 Quinnipiac, the Big Green will look to continue to build momentum heading further into ECAC Hockey action when they travel to face Union and RPI.
THE LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth hosted No. 11 Princeton and No. 6 Quinnipiac last weekend in two strong defensive efforts. On Friday night, the Big Green and Tigers remained scoreless into the third period before Dartmouth was able to light the lamp first on a breakaway. The Tigers responded shortly after, but neither team was able to capitalize for the remainder of regulation and the five-minute overtime period.
Hann Humphreys made their first start of the season and stopped 34 shots.
On Saturday afternoon, The Big Green and Bobcats played a balanced first period, despite Quinnipiac taking the lead into the second. The two teams would each swap a goal before the Bobcats extended their lead again, making the score 4-1. Within two minutes, the Big Green pulled within one, however an empty net goal stunned any further comeback, as the Bobcats ultimately defeated the Big Green, 5-3.
SCOUTING UNION
Union enters Friday's game with an 8-5-2 overall record, and a 3-9-2 ECAC Hockey record. The Garnet Chargers have played their previous five games on the road, returning home with a 2-3 record in that span. They lost their last game of the road trip against Clarkson, 4-0.
Riley Walsh leads the Garnet Chargers in points (21) and is tied for most goals (9) with Maddie Leaney, who has the second most points (17). Emily King leads the team in assists (11) and is third in overall points (15).
Union has used three goaltenders this season, however Sophie Matsoukas has started 21 of the Garnet Chargers 25 games, posting a 2.82 goals against average, a .902 save percentage, and a 7-12-2 record.
Union travelled to Thompson Arena to play the Big Green earlier in the year, a game that resulted in a 1-1- tie. The Big Green will look to continue momentum from last weekend and finish their season series with the Garnet Chargers with a win.
SCOUTING RPI
The RPI Engineers hold a 9-13-3 overall record and a 2-12-0 conference record heading into their matchup with the Big Green. The Engineers lost both their ECAC Hockey matchups this weekend and have lost six of their last eight games.
Ellie Kaiser and Marah Wagner are tied for the team high in points (16) and Wagner has the team high in assists (12). Kaiser is in a three-way tie for most goals on the team (7) with Nyah Philip and Nina Christof.
The Engineers have also used three goaltenders this season, however Amanda Rampado has been their go to, starting 22 games. Rampado has a 2.45 goals against average and has a .915 save percentage, the best among the three goaltenders.
The Big Green will look for redemption against the Engineers and close out their regular season series on a high. The Big Green hosted the Engineers earlier in the season and after maintaining a 3-0 lead for nearly half the game, lost in overtime 5-4.
