BIG GREEN TO FACE TWO TOP-TEN RANKED OPPONENTS ON THE ROAD
After going 1-1 on last weekend's road trip against Union and RPI, the Big Green look to put together strong defensive efforts on the road and gain valuable ground in the standings headed into matchups with No. 6 Cornell and No. 4 Colgate.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green travelled to New York last weekend to play the first of three straight weekends on the road. In their Friday matchup with Union, the Big Green got out to a dominant start, scoring less than five minutes into the game. Unfortunately, the goal was overturned due to goaltender interference, but momentum continued to swing Dartmouth's way. The Big Green scored twice in the period to lead 2-0 headed into the second. Despite Union tying the game before the halfway mark of the second period, the Big Green scored two straight, defeating the Garnet Chargers, 4-2.
On Saturday, the RPI Engineers played a dominant first period, leading the Big Green 3-0. The Engineers also scored goals in the second and third period before the Big Green were able to get on the board. The late power play goal was not enough to spark a comeback as the Big Green fell to the Engineers, 5-1.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
The Big Green's five goals last weekend came from five different scorers, while six different players collected assists. In each of the five previous games, no one on the Big Green collected more than one goal in a game. The last time a player scored two goals in a game was over a month ago, in the Big Green's 7-1 victory over Post. As they travel to face two top ten ranked opponents, continuing to spread the scoring across the lineup will prove helpful in trying to secure points headed towards the end of the regular season.
SCOUTING CORNELL
No. 6 Cornell enters their matchup with the Big Green on Friday with a 15-5-1 overall record and a 10-4-0 ECAC Hockey record. The Big Red were on the road last weekend and defeated No. 12 Princeton and No. 6 Quinnipiac.
Izzy Daniel has played in all 21 games for the Big Red and for the second year in a row leads the team in goals (16), assists (26) and points (42). Last year, she was tied for goals (18) but led the team with 48 points. She also leads the ECAC in assists per game (1.24) and points per game (2.00).
The Big Red have used two goaltenders this season, with Annelies Bergmann starting 16 of the 21 games. Bergmann has a 2.15 goals against average and a .914 save percentage this season.
The Big Red and Big Green faced off earlier this season at Thompson Arena. Cornell defeated Dartmouth 4-2, scoring on two of their three power play opportunities.
SCOUTING COLGATE
No. 4 Colgate has won five straight games and enters their weekend games with a 22-3-1 record and a 13-1-0 conference record. The Raiders also travelled to No. 6 Quinnipiac and No. 12 Princeton last weekend, collecting two shutout victories.
Kristyna Kaltounkova leads the Raiders in goals (22) and points (46) and is tied for second on the team with assists (24). Danielle Serdachny leads the team with assists (27). Both Kaltounkova and Serdachny are ECAC Hockey leaders as well; Kaltounkova leads the conference with goals and points whereas Serdachny leads the conference with assists and sits second in the conference with assists per game (1.04), behind Cornell's Izzy Daniel (1.24).
The Raiders have almost evenly split playing time between two goaltenders, Hannah Murphy and Kayle Osborne. Murphy has started ten games and played in 14 total, collecting a 1.24 goals against average and a 9.50 save percentage. Osborne has started 16 games and played in 19, posting a 1.25 goals against average and a .944 save percentage.
The Raiders travelled to face the Big Green earlier this season, collecting a dominant 8-1 victory at Thompson Arena in November.
