ITHACA, N.Y – The Big Green women's hockey team fell on the road against Cornell 14-0 on Friday night. Cornell scored five goals in the first period, including two shorthanded. With the win, the Cornell Big Red move to 16-5-1 on the season and 11-4-0 in ECAC Hockey play while the Big Green move to 5-16-2 overall and 2-12-2 in the conference.
The Big Red created their lead quickly, scoring only one minute into the game. They would score less than two minutes later to double their lead before sending the Big Green on the power play. Despite the chance to cut into Cornell's lead, the Big Green allowed two shorthanded goals, making the score 4-0. Cornell added their fifth goal of the period 30 seconds after their fourth goal.
Cornell continued to extend their lead in the second period, adding three more goals during the final five and a half minutes of play, two of which came on the power play.
Just over five minutes into the third period, the Big Green thought they finally got on the board; however, a holding penalty negated the goal and ultimately led to another Cornell power play goal. The Big Red added five more goals in the period to defeat the Dartmouth Big Green, 14-0.
The Big Green will close their weekend road trip against No. 4 Colgate tomorrow. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game can be streamed nationally on ESPN+, internationally on Stretch Internet, and can be followed via live stats on the official Dartmouth website, DartmouthSports.com.
