HANOVER, N.H. — On a snowy Sunday in Hanover, the Dartmouth women's basketball team rolled to a 77-35 victory over Division III VTSU Lyndon inside Leede Arena. 14 different Big Green players – all that dressed – got in the scoring column in the dominant win.
Dartmouth improved to 6-7 overall (0-1 Ivy League), while VTSU Lyndon dropped to 4-8 (0-4 North Atlantic Conference).
11 different players scored at least five points for the Big Green, led by Cate MacDonald and Sierra Carson with nine each. MacDonald also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. 77 points marked Dartmouth's highest offensive performance since Feb. 28, 2020, an 82-79 overtime win over Cornell. 42 points represents the Big Green's largest margin of victory since the opening game of the 2005-06 season, a 90-42 win over Quinnipiac (Nov. 18, 2005).
"Our players were really motivated, and it showed," said Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach Linda Cimino. "I thought our players played well together today. They shared the ball and were happy for each other. I'm excited to get ready to play Penn."
3-point shooting was key in Dartmouth's offensive performance as the Big Green knocked down a season-best 10 from beyond the arc. Eight different players made a 3-pointer, including Victoria Page, who was 2-for-2 from deep.
VTSU Lyndon scored on its second possession of the game, but was shutout for the remainder of the first quarter as Dartmouth cruised to a 23-2 lead. The Big Green shot better than 60 percent from the field, and were 3-of-7 from three, all while forcing seven Hornet turnovers. Eight different Dartmouth players had field goals after the opening 10 minutes.
The Hornets responded with a 20-point quarter of their own, salvaging a 44-22 deficit at halftime. Multiple 3-pointers from Kadienne Whitcomb were key in VTSU Lyndon's best offensive showing, but Dartmouth matched it with more balanced scoring, paced by Camryn Foltz and Olivia Lawlor, with five each in the second quarter.
The second quarter would represent more than half of VTSU Lyndon's scoring as the Hornets found just 13 points in the second half against a stingy Big Green defense that allows the fewest points per game among all Ivy League teams. Meena Tate's 3-pointer early in the third allowed the Big Green to clear 50 points with 7:36 still to play in the quarter. The lead first stretched to 40 with Leiya Stuart's layup at the 4:51 mark of the fourth. A 3-pointer by first-year Carson, the first of her career, was among the highlights of the game's final moments.
Not only did everyone score, each Big Green player logged double-digit minutes. Dartmouth racked up 20 assists as a team compared to just 10 turnovers.
Sunday marked the final non-conference game of the season for the Big Green, who return to Ivy League play on Saturday, Jan. 13 to host Penn at 1 p.m. A matchup with defending Ivy League champion Princeton inside Leede Arena follows on Monday, Jan. 15. Both games, along with all other conference games, will air live on ESPN+. Single-game and season tickets are available through the Dartmouth Athletics Ticket Office.
