HANOVER, N.H. – This past weekend, the Big Green sailing team raced in two regattas, hosting the Captain Hurst Bowl and rounding out competition at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship.
The winds were very active on Lake Mascoma, blowing large gusts and making for challenging conditions through the first few races. The Big Green started out towards the bottom of the pack but began a steady climb across both divisions starting around the fourth set of races, to ultimately finish the regatta in second place.
The A Division's 70 points were good for third place overall while the B Division's 52 points were a regatta second best, giving the Big Green 122 total points for second place overall, beating third-place brown by six points.
Starting in the fourth B Division race, every Big Green finish through the end of the regatta was a top ten finish. All but two of those 18 races were top five finishes. The A Division also picked up back-to-back first place finishing positions to close out the regatta.
In Maryland, the Big Green competed in the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship after qualifying with a fifth-place finish in the first round two weekend ago.
The Big Green experienced multiple types of breezes and had two wind delays, ultimately earning 199 A Division points and 139 B Division points for 338 total, placing them 13th overall.
In the seventh weekend of the fall season, the Big Green will compete in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals at Boston College, the Yale Women's and the Oberg Trophy hosted by MIT.
