CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth men's lightweight rowing team wrapped up its weekend at the Head of the Charles by seeing a pair of boats compete in Sunday's Men's Lightweight Eights, which included the "A" boat finishing fifth, but just over a second behind second place.
The Head of the Charles is a three-mile, 4,800 meter course which features a number of turns. It is completed in a time trial format.
"It was a great weekend for us at the Head of the Charles," said head coach
Trevor Michelson. "The Charles is always a great early-season check-in on speed and it looks like the lightweight league will be just as competitive as ever. Unfortunately, we were on the back end of a one-second margin in the Varsity, but really excited about the progress we've made in the last five weeks and looking forward to continuing to progress through the spring racing season."
The Big Green "A" entry finished with a time of 14:19.924, within shouting distance of Princeton in fourth (14:19.302), Penn in third (14:18.903) and Cornell in second (14:18.512). Dartmouth's "B" entry in the Men's Lightweight Eights posted a time of 15:07.501, good for 11th place.
"Our second boat did a fantastic job, highlighted by our coxswain
Katherine Kramer who started coxing last year and navigated a fantastic course in Boston," said Michelson. "This is the first time we've entered a second boat in the lightweight eight at the Charles in quite some time, if not ever."
On Saturday, Dartmouth had an entry in the Men's Championship Doubles, with the tandem of Wyatt Ellison and
Jack Schwartz placing 15th out of 20, in a top event that featured former Olympic medalists.
"Our championship double did a fantastic job in one of the premiere events of the regatta," said Michelson. "Really excited about their development and can't wait to see them contribute to the bigger boats this spring."
The Big Green wrap up their fall schedule in two weekends when they host Columbia and Harvard.
