WORCESTER, Mass.—The Dartmouth field hockey team traveled to Holy Cross on Tuesday evening. Despite two second half goals, the Big Green fell 4-2 to the Crusaders.
The first quarter saw Holy Cross take a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. Both teams tallied two shots in the first quarter with Ava Carlson making one save.
Holy Cross increased its lead at the 1:17 mark of the second quarter off a penalty corner.
Neither team scored for the rest of the quarter while Dartmouth outshot the Crusaders 4-1. Three of Dartmouth's shot found the goal but were turned away.
At halftime, the Big Green were outshooting Holy Cross 6-3.
Holy Cross added a pair of goals less than five minutes into the third quarter to take a 4-0 lead. At the 4:07 mark of the third quarter, the Big Green got on the board off a penalty corner. Ella Bowman took a pass from Ruby Walsh and notched her fourth goal of the season. Walsh picked up her first collegiate assist on the play.
In the third quarter, the Big Green once again edged out the Crusaders in shots 5-4.
2:11 into the fourth quarter, the Big Green cut the Holy Cross lead in half with their second goal of the game. Emilia Callahan and Riley Dumigan sprinted up the field on the transition. Callahan made a perfect pass to Dumigan, Dumigan made a move past the goalie for her fourth goal of the season.
Despite the early goal in the fourth quarter, the Big Green could not complete a comeback. Kylie McKinley closed out the game in goal and made five saves in 15 minutes of action. Carlson finished the game with three saves.
The Big Green had 12 shots on goal with Bowman notching a game high four. Lucia Campaño had two shots on goal while Raina Johns, Ally Brosie, Gabriela Braceras, Dumigan, Olivia Galiotos, and Callahan each had one shot on goal.
Dartmouth returns to Ivy League play for the remainder of the season. The Big Green take on Princeton on Sunday, Oct. 27 in New Jersey. Before closing out the season against Columbia on Sunday, Nov. 3.
