ETNA, N.H. — The Dartmouth equestrian team kicked off its season with an 8-2 win over No. 5 Sewanee University, on Sunday. After taking a 3-2 lead on the flat, the Big Green swept all five points over fences to capture the victory.
During the first half, senior
Chloe Terestchenko and sophomore
Samantha Takacs each turned in 90-point rounds (90-80 and 94-90, respectively), securing a 3-2 Dartmouth lead at the break. First-year
Elise Stephens also won her matchup, and sophomore
Cassidy Exner and first-year
Kileigh Van Ness minimized Sewanee's wins by keeping their combined deficits to four points.
Ultimately, however, raw score did not come into play, as Dartmouth swept the fences section, 5-0. Four of the five matchups were decided by 10 or more points, with Takacs leading the way with a 90-35 victory. She earned the meet's Most Outstanding Performer for both the flat and fences section.Â
"We had a great day, and I'm proud of this team," said Dartmouth head coach
Tenley Walsh. "We were prepared and the team delivered. I would also like to thank our athletic department, parents and fans for coming out to cheer us on today."
Dartmouth will travel to Sacred Heart for its next meet on Saturday, Oct. 26.
