Victoria Page and Olivia Austin combined for 31 points on 14-of-23 shooting

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team staged an 8-0 second-quarter run to pull within 39-24, but Syracuse outscored the Big Green 24-10 in the third quarter to erase any doubt as Dartmouth fell 87-52 on Saturday inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Victoria Page led Dartmouth in scoring with 16 points, with Olivia Austin adding a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second-career double-double.
Both Page and Austin shot well, with Page at 7-of-11 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Austin finished at 7-of-12.
The Big Green hung tough in the second and fourth quarters (dropping each stanza by just four points), but the first and third quarters proved too much to overcome.
Saturday's game ended a three-game-in-six-day road trip, as the Big Green enter the holiday break with a 5-7 record.
Five Syracuse players finished with double-figure points. Rebounding and turnovers hurt Dartmouth, with the Orange holding a 48-24 edge on the glass and the Big Green turning the ball over 22 times.
The Big Green return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 1 when they host Colby Sawyer at 1 p.m.
FIRST QUARTER:
Syracuse got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first 10 points.
Page answered with five in a row, behind a jumper and 3-pointer, pulling the Big Green within 10-5 with 5:22 on the first-quarter clock.
The Orange extended their lead back to 10 at 15-5 then 18-8, with the margin reaching 13 at 22-9 after one quarter of play.
SECOND QUARTER:
Syracuse continued the momentum into the second quarter, taking as much as a 24-point lead as a Shy Hawkins 3-point play made the score 37-13.
Dartmouth came back with 11 of the next 13 points, beginning with a Zeynep Ozel 3-pointer.
After a Syracuse basket, the Big Green reeled off eight straight points. The run began with six consecutive points from Austin, before two Cate MacDonald free throws pulled Dartmouth within 39-24 with 2:05 left in the quarter.
A Kyra Woold layup gave Syracuse a 41-24 halftime lead.
Austin posted eight points and four rebounds in the second quarter alone.
Olivia Austin had a personal 6-0 run of her own late in that first half.
The teams traded baskets to begin the third, but Syracuse answered with a 9-0 run to take a 52-26 lead with 6:28 on the clock.
Austin continued her strong play with layups at the 3:39 and 2:52 marks, but the Orange responded with the final six points of the quarter to take a 65-34 lead into the fourth.

A 9-2 Syracuse run gave the Orange their largest lead at 38, 83-45.
Just over a minute after entering, Meena Tate connected on two 3-pointers in the span of 21 seconds to pull the Big Green within 83-51.
A Brooke Hollawell made free throw rounded out the scoring, with the Orange on top 87-52 at the final horn.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
For the game, Dartmouth shot 36.2% from the floor (21-of-58), including 31.3% from 3-point range (5-of-16).
Syracuse finished at 54.3% (38-of-70) and 30.8% from behind the arc (4-of-13).
The Orange held a 48-24 in rebounding.
To go with her career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, Olivia Austin added two assists, a block and five steals (just one of tying her career high vs. UMass).
Austin's other double-double came at home vs. UMass Lowell.
The Big Green have now featured a double-double in three straight games (also Ozel at CCSU and Clare Meyer at Lafayette).
Tate's 3-pointers marked her first points of the season and fourth and fifth career made threes.
Page has solely led the Big Green in scoring (or tied for the team lead) in nine of the first 12 games of the season.
Saturday ended a December that included eight games (two home, six road) in the span of 21 days.
