The Big Green won for the third time in their last four games

HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team rung in the new year by closing nonleague play with a 94-46 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday afternoon inside Leede Arena. The win marked the Big Green's third in their last four games as they enter Saturday's Ivy League opener at Brown with a 6-7 record.
In the end, four Dartmouth players scored double-figure points, with 13 of the 14 who saw action getting on the scoreboard. Another highlight was the Big Green's season-high 18 steals, as Colby-Sawyer turned the ball over 26 times on the afternoon.
The Big Green head to Brown on Saturday for their Ivy League opener at 2 p.m.
FIRST QUARTER:
Dartmouth opened a double-digit lead before the game was five minutes old, as a Clare Meyer layup gave the Big Green a 15-5 lead with 5:38 left in the first.
The lead continued to swell. In the final two minutes of the quarter, Ozel converted a layup and made two free throws, then Alexandra Eldredge finished a driving layup to give the Big Green a 28-11 advantage heading to the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
The momentum continued in the second. With the Big Green up 21, they scored seven straight points, capped off by a Carson corner three, to make the score 43-15 with 6:02 on the clock.
Dartmouth ended the second quarter with seven straight points, holding the Chargers scoreless for the final 4:21 of the stanza and taking a 50-18 halftime lead.
THIRD QUARTER:
The third quarter was much of the same. The closet Colby-Sawyer would get was 31, but the Big Green staged a 13-2 run to take a 72-28 lead after an Ozel 3-pointer with 43 seconds remaining.
Dartmouth led 72-30 after three quarters of play.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The fourth quarter was highlighted by a number of Big Green getting in on the action.
One highlight came with 6:58 remaining, as Annika Jiwani posted her first-career points behind a layup.
Banovic scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting.
Ellie Cerf added five behind a 3-pointer and floater to round out the Big Green's scoring.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
For the game, Dartmouth shot a season-high 57.1% from the floor (40-of-70). It marked its best field goal percentage since shooting 61.4% at Cornell on Feb. 15, 2020.
Colby-Sawyer finished at 37.5% (18-of-48) and 23.5% from 3-point range (4-of-17).
The Big Green held a 36-25 edge in rebounds.
Meyer grabbed 10 rebounds, marking the second time in the last three games (also at Lafayette) of reaching double figures.
Dartmouth's starting lineup shot a combined 21-of-34 from the floor (61.8%).
Brooke Hollowell converted a first half field goal, marking her second career field goal and first of the 2-point variety.
