Dartmouth outscores the Bears in three of the four quarters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team outscored Brown 20-7 in the third quarter to turn a 2-point lead into a commanding 15-point advantage, on the way to a big 64-48 win over the Bears on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win gave the Big Green their first Ivy League opening victory since the 2019-20 season and their largest margin of victory in a league game since the season prior.
Victoria Page finished with a game-high 14 points, with Zeynep Ozel (12) and Cate MacDonald (11) also scoring in double figures as well. Olivia Austin filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
The Big Green shot 8-of-12 from the floor in the third quarter, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc. The win improves Dartmouth's overall record to 7-7, marking the latest in the season the Big Green have been .500 or better since that same 2019-20 campaign.

FIRST QUARTER:
Brown scored first, but the Big Green answered with eight straight points behind a Clare Meyer layup, followed by 3-pointers from Ozel and Alexandra Eldredge, all coming in successive possessions.
Dartmouth continued to lead for the remainder of the quarter. Brown pulled as close as three, but the Big Green scored the final four points of the quarter (from Page and Muhammad) to open a 17-9 advantage.
SECOND QUARTER:
Brown chipped away in the second, getting as close as two on three occasions: 23-21, 25-23 and 27-25, which proved to be the halftime score.
In the end, the Bears edged the Big Green 16-10 in the second.
MacDonald scored a team-high four points in the quarter.
Each side turned the ball over five times in the second.
THIRD QUARTER:
With Dartmouth leading 29-27, the Big Green broke the game open with a 14-0 run.
The run began with a coast-to-coast layup from Ozel and ended with a 3-point play from Austin followed by an Ozel 3-pointer, giving the Big Green a 43-27 lead with 3:14 on the clock.
Dartmouth held Brown scoreless for a stretch of nearly six minutes.
The Big Green lead reached as much as 18 after a MacDonald 3-pointer, with Dartmouth holding a 47-32 lead after three quarters of play.
FOURTH QUARTER:
Brown scored the first five points of the fourth to extend its run to 8-0 bridging the end of the third quarter. That pulled the Bears within 10 at 47-37.
Dartmouth answered with five straight points to retake a 15-point lead.
For the rest of the game, the margin remained between 11 and 16 points.
The Bears started fouling early, but the Big Green hit 9-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter — including 8-of-8 over the final 3:35 — to keep Brown at bay.
The win was Dartmouth's first Ivy league road win since a 67-64 overtime victory at Cornell on Feb. 18, 2022. It marked the Big Green's first Ivy road win in regulation since a 72-58 win at Brown on Mar. 7, 2020.
The Big Green improved to 4-3 on the road this season, with the four road victories already their most since the 2019-20 season.
It also marks their best record after the first seven road games since the 2005-06 season when Dartmouth stood 5-2 through seven away contests.
For the game, the Big Green shot 50.0% from the floor (22-of-44), including 45.5% from 3-point range (5-of-11).
It marked the first time Dartmouth has shot 50% or better against an Ivy League opponent since finishing 50% (31-of-62) against Cornell on Feb. 28, 2020.
It was the first time that's happened on the road against an Ivy foe since shooting 55.6% at Columbia on Mar. 3, 2018.
Along with shooting 57.1% in Wednesday's nonleague finale, the Big Green have shot 50+% in consecutive games for the first time in more than 10 years.
Brown finished at 29.4% from the floor (17-of-58) and 17.2% from behind the arc (5-of-29).
The Ivy League opening win marked Dartmouth's first since beating Harvard at home, 63-62, on Jan. 11, 2020.
Saturday was the first time the Big Green have won an Ivy League opener on the road since topping Harvard 76-61 on Jan. 10, 2015.
MacDonald's 11 points tied a career high.
Page has now led the Big Green in scoring in six straight games and 11 games this season.
The Big Green defense held Brown leading scorer Grace Arnolie to a season-low four points on 1-of-13 shooting.
Dartmouth has now won four of its last five games, its best streak since Dec. 5-21 of 2018 when the Big Green were also 4-1 in a five-game stretch.
The Big Green's last three wins have come by double figures, the first time three straight wins have come by double digits since nonleague play during the 2019-20 season.
The Big Green snapped a five-game losing streak against Brown.
The Bears finished with a 35-30 edge in rebounds.
