MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team opened its spring season with a strong performance in Saturday's opening round of the Columbia Classic. The Big Green shot +5 (293) over the opening 18 holes, tied for second out of 16 schools competing, just four strokes behind first-place Old Dominion.

Individually, first-year
Caroline Chung was Dartmouth's top finisher on day one, finishing with three birdies and shooting 1-under-par-71 for the day. She is tied for fifth entering Sunday.

Alex Kirk, Dartmouth's Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf. "Very happy to get out of Leverone (Field House) and start well. Â Two more rounds with strong winds expected. Â We look forward to competing; we need to keep playing our game."

Senior
Penelope Tir wasn't far behind Chung, standing in a tie for eighth. She shot even par 72 on Saturday, which included four birdies. Sophomore
Sophie Thai is tied for 19th at 2-over-74, including five birdies.

Rounding out the Big Green were senior
Katherine Sung tied for 36th (4-over-76), sophomore
Hope Hall tied for 74th (9-over-81) and junior
Claire Xu tied for 83rd (11-over-83).
Dartmouth stands ahead of three other Ivy league teams participating in the Columbia Invitational. Yale is in fifth (9-over-297), Columbia stands 10th (14-over-302) and Princeton is 15th (23-over-311).
