CAMBRIDGE, Mass. —
Peyton Capuano's victory at No. 1 singles over Esha Velaga, the northeast region's top player, allowed the Big Green to claim a 4-3 victory over Penn on Saturday, the second day of the ECAC Championships at Harvard. The victory was reminiscent of the 2023 season finale against the Quakers, which also came down to the final singles match in a 4-3 triumph.
A close doubles point set the tone for an ECAC thriller.
Brooke Hess and
Katie Weber defeated Penn's Iris Gallo and Maya Urata, 7-5, at the No. 2 position to seal the point for the Big Green.
Lexi Dewire and
Caroline Lemcke were victorious on Court 3 in the first match to finish.
Dartmouth found itself behind the eight ball after each the first three finished singles matches sided with the Quakers, but that was before the Big Green's talented trio of first-years delivered three crucial victories. Lemcke helped right the ship with a win at the No. 4 position, and Moore followed with a three-setter on Court 2, and it came down to Capuano and Esha Velaga on the top court. Capuano delivered with a three-set win, handing the Big Green their second straight win over Penn.
