HANOVER, N.H. — Playing its final home game of the season, the Dartmouth women's basketball team suffered a 78-42 loss to Yale on Saturday afternoon inside Leede Arena. The Bulldogs recorded two double-doubles, including a 30-point performance from Brenna McDonald.
Dartmouth dropped to 7-16 on the season and 1-10 in the Ivy League while Yale improved to 7-17 and 4-7 in the Ancient Eight.
Not long after scoring the game's first eight points, the Bulldogs raced to an 18-4 lead by the 4:30 mark of the first quarter. Dartmouth responded with a 14-3 run to come within one possession, 21-18, in the opening minutes of the second, but soon found itself trailing by double digits once again. Yale maintained a lead of at least 10 for the remainder of the game, starting at the midpoint of the second quarter.
The Big Green, who entered Saturday's game with the momentum of last weekend's first Ivy League win, were led by nine-point outputs from
Nina Minicozzi and
Clare Meyer. Minicozzi knocked down three 3-pointers, each coming in the third quarter. Yale's McDonald was backed by Jenna Clark's 17-point, 12-assist double-double, along with 12 points from Klara Astrom. McDonald record game-highs in both scoring and rebounding (12).
Dartmouth looked to have recovered from a tough start with the much-needed run 14-3 run that bridged the end of the first quarter and start of the second, especially after back-to-back Meyer buckets that cut the deficit to three. An Astrom jumper had Yale back up by 10 at the 5:02 mark of the second and Dartmouth ended up trailing by 14 (34-20) at halftime.
Yale had its first 20-point lead early in the third quarter after scoring the first six points of the second half. The deficit stretched to 30 in the later minutes of the third, and eventually the Bulldogs' winning margin of 36 represented their largest lead.
Prior to the game, Dartmouth honored its five seniors:
Mekkena Boyd,
Mia Curtis,
Camryn Foltz,
Carrington Washburn and
Leiya Stuart.
With senior day in the books and the home schedule complete, the Big Green finish the 2023-24 season with three straight on the road, starting with Penn on Friday, March 1 at 5 p.m.
