CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Opening the ECAC Championship at Harvard on Friday afternoon, the sixth-seeded Dartmouth women's tennis team dropped a close doubles point and couldn't recover in singles during the opening day's 4-0 loss to No. 3 seed Columbia.
With hopes of claiming the doubles point still alive after falling at the No. 2 position, Dartmouth nearly drew even with
Lexi Dewire and
Caroline Lemcke coming up just short in a tiebreak on Court 3. Had they pulled it out, all eyes would've been on the top court, where
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore were in another tiebreak.
The first three finished singles matches each sided with the Lions as the Big Green were victims of a shutout, but a few Dartmouth players were able to take sets from tough Columbia opponents. Moore won the second set at the No. 2 position, Lemcke claimed the first set at the No. 4 slot and
Katie Weber took the second at No. 6. Capuano, after dropping the first, was leading the second set when the match was clinched.
The Big Green will take on the loser of Penn and Brown at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.
