HANOVER, N.H. – First-year defender
CJ Foley of the Dartmouth men's hockey team was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, the conference office announced in conjunction with the naming of its All-Ivy League honors.
Luke Haymes and Foley were unanimous selections for the first team, while
Steven Townley was recognized as a member of the Academic All-Ivy Team.
Â
Foley becomes the fifth Big Green player to be named Ivy Rookie of the Year and first since 2011. Foley and Haymes are the first pair of Big Green teammates to be named First Team All-Ivy since the 2012-13 season.
Â
Foley, recently named to the ECAC Hockey Third and Rookie Teams, played in all 10 Ivy League contests this season. Early in the campaign, he tallied his first two collegiate goals, including the game-winner, to go with one assist for a three-point night to lead Dartmouth past Princeton, 5-4. In the final game of the regular season, Foley had one goal and one assist, helping the Big Green to a 4-1 win over Yale to clinch the four seed in the ECAC Hockey conference tournament.
Â
Haymes led the Big Green in goals (6) and points (11) over the course of the 10-game Ivy slate. He registered a point in each of the first three contests. In February, Haymes scored three goals against Princeton, recording his first collegiate hat trick, in a 5-1 victory over the Tigers. The sophomore forward finished with at least one point in each of the last three Ivy games, scoring once at Harvard, having one goal and one assist at home against Brown and two assists against Yale.
Â
Townley, no stranger to academic recognition, was named to the Academic All-Ivy Team after excelling in the classroom on the ice. Recently named as a nominee for the ECAC Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, Townley skated in all 10 Ivy League games this season, registering an assist in the 5-3 win over the Bulldogs in the regular season finale.
Â
Big Green take on the Union Garnet Chargers this weekend in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals. Games one and two are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with an if-needed game three on Sunday at 4 p.m. The entire quarterfinal series will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
