HANOVER, N.H. – The sailing team competed in three regattas over the weekend, taking home two top five finishes, including a second-place finish at the Marchaindo Team Race and a third-place finish at the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race hosted by Brown.
The Marchiando Team Race, hosted by MIT, saw the Big Green competing for the Schell Trophy in the Coed Fall Championship. The Big Green posted a 13-5 record at the regatta, good for a second-place finish. Dartmouth lost only one race in the first round, collecting first place finishes in every other race.
In the second round, Dartmouth posted a 3-3 record, once again collecting first and second place finishes in each of the three races it won. The Big Green lost only one race in the final round as well as collected a win against Harvard, the eventual regatta winners.
James Paul was the standout at the Marciando Team Race. Paul was in his first starter role as well as served as both Crew and Skipper, and according to Head Coach
Justin Assad, "was crucial to team success."
At the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race, the Big Green ran away with round one, going 9-1 and only losing to Yale, the regatta winners. The combination of
Gray Hemans,
Sarah Young and
Bella Casaretto as Skippers and
Sudi Zhao,
Madeline Koelbel,
Phoebe Lee, and
Faye Benjamin as Crews collected first place finishes in four of their nine wins. The Big Green closed the regatta with a win against Brown, finishing second, third, and fifth, to secure a third-place overall finish.
The Big Green also competed at the Jumbo Team Race hosted by Tufts. Dartmouth won two of three regattas against Yale for their only two wins on the day, posting a second, third, and fourth place finish in one race and a first, third, and fifth place finish in their second win.
Dartmouth will return to the water next weekend, sailing in two regattas hosted by fellow Ivy League schools, Brown, and Yale. Brown will host the Open New England Team Race Championship whereas Yale will host the Yale Women's Team Race.
