PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dartmouth softball team struck first and later tied the game, 2-2, but wasn't able to hold off defending Ivy League regular season champion Princeton, who pushed a run across in the sixth to seal the series sweep on Sunday.
Â
Kelly Beaupre's first-inning RBI groundout came after the first three Big Green batters of the game walked, handing Dartmouth an early 1-0 lead that would disappear by the next half inning. Princeton put up another in the second before
Olivia Schramm tied the game in the third with an RBI double, but Julia Dumais drove in a Princeton run with a double of her own in the sixth, putting the Tigers back on top for good.
Â
Alaana Panu was 2-for-3 at the plate to account for half of the Big Green's hits. Sophia Marsalo and Cate Bade were both 2-for-3 for Princeton, which totaled seven hits.
Rachel McCarroll went the distance in the circle for Dartmouth, allowing two earned runs, and the Tigers used a combination of Meghan Harrington, winning pitcher Molly Chambers and Brielle Wright.
Â
The Big Green had the tying run at first during the final inning after Panu's lead-off single, but Wright was able to retire the next three to secure the save.
Â
Schramm's double was her seventh of the year, and she now has an RBI in three of Dartmouth's last four games. It scored
Mary Beth Cahalan, who lost her 11-game hitting streak despite reaching base twice (walk and fielder's choice).
