PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — The Dartmouth women's rowing team wrapped up a strong first season under head coach
John Graves on Sunday by winning three petite finals while competing in the varsity eight grand final and finishing fifth overall in the third varsity eight.
After qualifying for the grand final in the varsity eight at the Ivy League Championship for the first time since 2019, the Big Green posted a time of 6:49.889 on Sunday, which was sixth overall. It was just over three seconds behind Columbia in fifth and not far off from the top crews of Princeton (6:30.520), Penn (6:33.035), Yale (6:34.452) and Brown (6:39.157).
The Tigers won the Ivy League Championship due to its varsity eight victory. In the overall team points race, Dartmouth finished with 28 points, which was seventh overall, ahead of Cornell, but only 10 points behind Harvard-Radcliffe and Columbia tied for fifth.
"I'm very proud of the way each crew went out today and celebrated the work they've put in all year," said Dartmouth head coach
John Graves. "We earned lots of good experience racing against some of the best crews in the country this weekend and will use that to help inform our plan for next year. We will take a close look at what worked, what didn't, and spend the summer preparing to hit the ground running next September."
The Big Green cruised to a petite final victory in the 2V, finishing in 7:08.990, more than 25 seconds ahead of the Big Red (7:34.510).
Dartmouth also won its petite finals in the varsity four (8:14.44) and second varsity four (8:27.196).
The third varsity eight featured just a grand final on Sunday, which saw the Big Green impress in placing fifth (7:27.303), ahead of Columbia (7:31.855) and Cornell (7:50.672).
Dartmouth's third varsity four also competed for the first time Sunday, coming in sixth overall (8:52.094).
Sunday wraps up the 2023-24 season for the Big Green, who showed significant progress all season, culminating with their performance at the Ivy League Championship.
