Stellar performances recognized
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth sailing impressed at the Fleet Race National Championship, and in turn, is being recognized among The Richards Group Athletes of the Week.
This week's honorees are the Big Green's women's team that won the A Division and the open team that finished third in the A Division.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight outstanding student-athletes as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Women Sailing
Maddie Hawkins, Sr., Edgewater, Md.
Reese Bragg, Jr., Irvington, Va.
Maddie Hawkins and Reese Bragg competed at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Women's Fleet Race Nationals last week, securing third place for the Big Green, their best finish since at least 2016.
In addition to the third-place finish, Hawkins and Bragg won the A Division against some of the best college sailors in the country. The pair put up only 97 points in A Division sailing, 14 points better than the next best score, 111 points that belonged to Cornell and the regatta winners, Stanford. Hawkins and Bragg collected ten top five finishes in the A Division including four first place finishes.
Open Sailing
Boyd Bragg, Sr., Irvington, Va.
Yumi Yoshiyasu, Sr., Houston, Texas
Boyd Bragg and Yumi Yoshiyasu were the go-to A Division sailors in the NEISA Open Fleet Race National Championship this past weekend on the Charles River. The pair helped the Big Green to a third-place finish, a slight improvement from the past two year's fifth and fourth place finishes.
The pair collected seven top five finishes over two days of Championship sailing, including first place finishes in the 13th and 15th set of racing to put the Big Green in the lead headed into the final leg of the regatta. Bragg and Yoshiyasu's 127 A Division points and 120 B Division points was good for third best.
