CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Big Green Open sailing team finished competing at the Open Fleet Race Nationals Monday, securing 247 overall points for third overall.
After sailing 20 races on Sunday and sitting in third place, the Big Green got out to a hot start on Monday, collecting three first-place finishes and a second-place finish in their first six races of the day. Their third first place finish propelled them into second place and started a steady climb for the Big Green.
13 points in the 14th round of sailing set the Big Green up for a first-place finish in the 15th A Division race, putting them in first place, only two points above Yale. The Bulldogs and Big Green both put-up double-digit points in the 15th B Division race to then sit tied with 185 points.
The Big Green struggled a bit over the final six races, putting up 62 points to finish third overall. They did collect two top-five finishes during the remaining six races, a fourth-place finish in the 16B race and a third-place finish in the 17B race, a finish that at the time put the Big Green only one point out of second place.
Harvard, who remained in first place for the beginning part of the regatta and traded positions with Yale multiple times, secured the win posting 227 total points, including only 97 points in the B Division, a regatta best. Yale finished with 235 total points followed by the Big Green with 247. Dartmouth's 127 A Division points was good for third-best overall while their 120 B Division points was also good for third best.
