WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – On the final day of the IRA National Championship, the Dartmouth men's lightweight rowing team finished fifth in the grand final at Mercer Lake. Today's performance marked the best finish at the IRA since 2013.
Â
The Big Green finished in the top five in the country after completing a historic season on the water this year. Earlier this season, the Big Green beat Yale and Columbia for the first time since 2012. At the Eastern Sprints, Dartmouth made the grand final for the first time since 2017.Â
Â
"It's hard to put into words," said Head Coach Trevor Michelson. "Coming top five in the country on the backs of two fifth years and three seniors is just a testament of the hard work and dedication these student-athletes have given to the program. We're a young team a lot of freshmen and sophomores in these boats and just excited to come back next year and make another push to the podium."Â
Â
"We're proud of how it turned out and couldn't have asked for a different group to do it with," said senior Adin McAuliffe.Â
Â
After being asked what allowed this group to make this step this year, McAuliffe said, "The closeness of this group. We got seniors who are best friends with freshmen and everything in between. It's a real brotherhood."
