Sophie Thai Qualifies for U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

NEWTON, Mass. - On Tuesday, rising junior Sophie Thai punched her ticket to the 2024 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship after posting a 69 (-4) at Southern Hills Country Club in Newton, Massachusetts. Thai's under par score earned her the first of two tickets to the amateur tournament where she will make her first appearance in the championship.

Thai's performance was highlighted only three holes in, shooting her first career hole-in-one on the 148-yard, par-3 hole. She continued her success with five birdies over the round to secure a first-place finish.

Alongside Thai in the championship is reigning Massachusetts Women's Amateur Champion and second qualifier Rebecca Skoler, also making her first championship appearance. Phoebe Brinker and Shannon Johnson will serve as alternates.

The amateur championship will be held at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the first week of August.
