The Big Green win their first road game of the season

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team won its first road game of the season shutting out Colgate, 2-0 on Thursday evening. Scoring the first goal of the game was senior Aleena Seales.

With the win, the Big Green improve to 4-2-1. Meanwhile, Colgate falls to 1-6-1. This win marks the second year in a row that Dartmouth has beaten Colgate.

"I am really proud of the team performance tonight," said Taylor Schram the Stacy Branca '94 Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer.

"It is challenging to go on the road and get results but we came out playing the DWS way with a ton of energy and a relentless attacking mentality. It was a great bounce-back win for our group and I am looking forward to seeing it propel us towards another strong performance on Sunday back at Burnham."

Just 58 seconds into the game, the Big Green quickly attacked the Colgate defense and found a shot on goal. Then, in the third minute of the game, junior Danielle Burke passed the ball to Seales taking a shot outside the box hitting the top right corner of the cage,1-0. Seales scored her second goal of the year, scoring a career-high of two goals this season. Dartmouth continued taking control of the game as they controlled most of the possession. Dartmouth outshot the Raiders 9-1 and earned three corners at the end of the first half, taking the 1-0 lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Colgate was quick to their attacking cage, but the Dartmouth defense stopped the Raiders. In the 55^th minute, Dartmouth took the ball up the right side of the field. Senior Hannah Curtin crossed the ball toward the box and with a redirect by Seales, the ball found junior Hailey Rorick inside the 18. With a great touch by Rorick, she crossed the ball to fifth-year Daisy Granholm, sliding the ball under the Colgate defender thanks to a screen by senior Danielle Burke, sealing the 2-0 victory for the Big Green.

Dartmouth outshot the Raiders 13-5 with a 7-2 edge on shots on goal. The Big Green also earned four corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Ally Connors collected two saves in 90 minutes of play.

Dartmouth returns home on Sunday, September, 14 to welcome Hofstra at 3 p.m. The Big Green host Youth Soccer Day. All children under the age of 17 wearing a soccer jersey get in for free.
