HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth Athletics & Recreation announced Monday that for the first time, it will have a Tennis Ball Toss for Charity in conjunction with the Dartmouth men's hockey game against Princeton on Saturday, February 1 at 7 p.m. As part of the game, the department will donate all tennis balls tossed after the first goal to animal shelters.
To take part in the Tennis Ball Toss for Charity, all fans must be in Thompson Arena prior to the 7 p.m. puck drop. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. (30 minutes early) to accommodate arrival. Fans arriving prior to 7 p.m. are permitted to enter with a maximum of three tennis balls to take part in the charity toss. Fans arriving after puck drop will make tennis ball donations directly to collection receptacles located at the ticket entrances. Following the first Dartmouth goal of the game, all fans are encouraged to celebrate the goal by throwing tennis balls onto the ice.
To avoid contamination of the tennis balls, any objects other than tennis balls are strictly prohibited from being thrown on the ice. Any fan seen throwing a non-tennis ball object on the ice will be removed from Thompson Arena. Following the first goal, fans who throw objects, including tennis balls, will also be removed from the arena.
Tennis balls will be available for purchase at Thompson Arena until puck drop at 7 p.m. on Saturday. One tennis ball will be $2 or three tennis balls for $5. In addition to donating tennis balls, Dartmouth will also make a monetary donation to animal shelters from the proceeds sold within Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth students attending the game must present their student IDs and will enter through an alternate "student" only entrance on the north side of Thompson Arena.
Exiting and re-entry of Thompson Arena for all fans throughout the game will be prohibited.
