HANOVER, N.H.—The Dartmouth field hockey team fell 4-3 to America East foe UMass-Lowell on Sunday at Chase Field.
The River Hawks scored the first two goals of the contest, the first coming just 9:17 into the game and the second coming at the 12:07 mark.
Before the end of the first quarter, the Big Green cut the Lowell lead in half as Gemma Franco scored her first career goal. Dartmouth had pressure off a penalty corner and Franco intercepted a clearing attempt and fired home her first goal.
The first quarter saw six Dartmouth shots compared to just three from Lowell. Penalty corners were 2-1 in favor of the Big Green to open the game.
With less than eight minutes left in the second quarter, the Big Green tied the game. Georgia Thornton inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Lucia Campano. Campano controlled the ball and fired a pass back to Thornton, Thornton then flipped the ball towards the cage. Olivia Galitios was camped in front and batted the ball into the cage for her first goal of the season.
The teams went to halftime tied at two, shots were 11-5 in favor of Dartmouth, while corners were 4-1 Dartmouth at the break.
2:06 into the third quarter, the Big Green took a 3-2 lead. Ruby Walsh took a pass from inside the circle from Ella Bowman who received the insert from the corner. Walsh blasted home her first goal of the season to give Dartmouth a 3-2 lead. Bowman has a team high nine points this season after the assist.
Lowell responded with back-to-back corner goals at the 12:23 and 13:17 marks of the third quarter to take a 4-3 lead.
The Big Green tallied three shots in the fourth quarter along with three corners but could not tie the game at four.
Dartmouth set season highs in goals, shots on goal with 12 and penalty corners with 13 in the game.
Ava Carlson made two saves for the Big Green as she played all 60 minutes for the Big Green.
Just over nine minutes into the third quarter, Walsh made a defensive save for the Big Green. Walsh also had a team four shots on goal while Bowman tallied six total shots with two finding the goal.
Dartmouth stays at home for two more home games against Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 14 against Holy Cross. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
