HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's tennis played its final competition of the fall season this past weekend, welcoming Yale, UMass, Brown, and Rutgers to Hanover for the Big Green Invite.
Competition began on Friday with both singles and doubles competition. The Big Green went 4-2 against Rutgers in singles play on Friday, starting with
Lauren Han who defeated Mai Nguyen, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
Josephine Lombardi earned the 6-3, 6-4 win over Zuzanna Frankowska,
Valentina Cruz picked up the 6-3, 6-3 win over Naomi Karki and
Audrey Feng defeated Cindy Zhou 6-2, 6-2.
Brooke Hess and
Elise Wong lost their first singles matches of the weekend. Hess won one set and went to a tiebreaker but ended up falling 1-6, 6-4, 11-9. Wong lost in two sets to Savannah Cohen, 6-3, 6-2.
The Big Green won one doubles match on Friday as
Sam Grosjean and Lombardi won their match 6-3. Hess and Wong and Han and Cruz each fell in their matches, 6-4 and 6-3 respectively.
On Saturday, Dartmouth continued competition against Brown, Rutgers, and UMass. In doubles play, Han and Lombardi were paired for a 6-4 win over Rutgers. Han then played in her second doubles match of the day, this time with
Alexandra Orlins, playing to a 7-5 win over UMass. Grosjean and Cruz defeated Fiona Ao and Owethu Makhanya of UMass 6-4 before Feng and Wong closed out doubles play with a win, 6-4 over Amelia Tye and Amade de Oliveira of UMass.
Grosjean and Orlins started the day paired together, dropping their doubles match to Brown 6-4. Hess and Wong also lost their match to Brown, falling 6-2.
In singles play on Saturday, Dartmouth won two of its six matches, Lombardi and Hess continue to play well. Lombardi earned the three-set victory over Ella Faessler of UMass 7-6, 3-6, 12-10, while Hess earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Han fell to Amelia Tye of UMass, 6-0, 4-6, 11-9, Feng lost her match 7-5, 7-6(3), Cruz was defeated by Fiona Ao 6-4, 7-5, and Wong lost 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.
On Sunday, Dartmouth wrapped up the Big Green Invite with singles play. Feng won her match over Miranda Case of Rutgers, 6-4, 7-6(4) and Grosjean defeated Brown's Daniella Ben-Abraham, 3-6, 7-6(1), 10-6.
Lombardi, Hess, and Cruz also played in singles on Sunday, each dropping their matches with Brown.
