PRINCETON, N.J.—The Dartmouth volleyball team closed out the 2025 season on Saturday against Princeton. The Big Green fell in three sets to the regular season Ivy League champions.
Set One (L, 25-12)
The Tigers took an early 11-3 lead after 13 points which led to a Big Green timeout. The timeout allowed the Big Green to regroup as they looked for a comeback. Princeton fended off the Big Green and took the opening set 25-12.
Kauany Gutz notched three kills in the first set while Raeli Smith had a pair on four attempts, Zori Brown also added a kill for the Big Green. The senior duo of Molly Power and Ava Roberts combined for a block in the first set. Ellie Mattox had five assists in the first set.
Set Two (L, 25-22)
The second set was the closest set of the match as the Big Green looked to tie the match. The teams were nearly even after 10 points as Dartmouth held a 6-4 lead and grew it to 10-6 before a Princeton timeout. The Big Green didn't let the timeout affect them as they held the lead. With the Big Green leading 19-17, Princeton called their second timeout. The Tigers cut the lead to 21-20 as the Big Green called timeout. Out of the timeout, the Tigers took five of the next six points to take the set 25-22.
Gutz had a set high seven kills in the set as she hit .400, Brown had four kills for the Big Green while LaFata (3), Smith (2), and Sophia Gagnepain (1) each had kills for the Big Green. Gagnepain also had seven kills to lead Dartmouth while Mattox added six assists. The duo of Roberts and Smith combined for the lone Dartmouth block in the set. EllaMae Fitzgerald notched a set high 10 digs while Gutz had six for the Big Green.
Set Three (L, 25-15)
The third set saw the teams trade points early on before Princeton took an 11-7 lead, leading to a Dartmouth timeout. The Tigers extended their lead to 17-8 which led to a second Big Green timeout. The timeout did not slow down Princeton as they took the third and final set 25-15.
Both Brown and LaFata notched two kills while Elle McCreery and Gutz each had one kill. Gagnepain had two aces in the set along with a dig. McCreery had a pair of block assists as she teamed up with Gutz and LaFata for one block each. Mattox had four assists while Fitzgerald and Gagnepain each had one.
Fitzgerald had a team high 17 digs for the Big Green while Gutz tallied a double double with 11 kills and 10 digs in her final match with the Big Green. Brown had seven kills while LaFata had five, Smith had four. Mattox had a team high 15 assists for the Big Green.
The Big Green close out the 2025 season with seven wins including four in Ivy League play. Dartmouth will be back on the court in the fall of 2026.
