HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's basketball team jumped out to as much as a nine-point second-quarter lead over a Princeton team that's near the top of the Ivy League standings, but the Tigers pulled away in the second half in downing the Big Green, 67-55 on Saturday evening inside Leede Arena.
Victoria Page led the offense with 17 points while Clare Meyer scored 14 and Zeynep Ozel added 11. Meyer shot an impressive 7-of-12 from the floor while Ozel was 3-of-5, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range.
Skye Belker led Princeton with 25 points.
The Tigers never put the game fully out of reach. With the Big Green trailing by 13 with three minutes remaining, they clawed back to within six with 40 seconds still remaining, but couldn't get any closer.
Dartmouth closes its season next Saturday, hosting Harvard at 2 p.m. on Senior Day. Prior to the game, Page, Doreen Ariik and head student manager Michaela Nsubuga will all be recognized.
FIRST QUARTER:
A back-and-forth start saw five lead changes before the game was four minutes old.
Page scored 10 of the Big Green's first 13 points, as a layup gave Dartmouth a 13-9 lead, forcing a Princeton timeout.
With the Big Green trailing 14-13, they scored eight of the final 12 first-quarter points, capped off by a Meyer layup to make the score 21-18 after 10 minutes of play.
SECOND QUARTER:
After Princeton opened the second-quarter scoring, Dartmouth staged an 8-0 run, which included four points from Meyer.
An Ozel steal and ensuing layup gave the Big Green a 29-20 advantage with 6:12 left in the second.
The Tigers went on to outscore Dartmouth 11-3 the rest of the quarter to pull within 32-31 at the half.
THIRD QUARTER:
Princeton began the third quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 42-34 lead.
That proved to be its largest lead of the quarter, as the Big Green clawed back to within four at 44-40 after an Ozel free throw in the final minute.
There was one stretch of 4:51 that saw no field goals by either side and the Big Green held the Tigers without a field goal for the final 6:26 of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
Princeton eventually increased its lead to double figures for the first time at 57-46 with 4:20 left in the fourth.
Trailing by 13, Dartmouth staged a late 7-0 run — via an Olivia Austin layup, Page 3-point play and Meyer layup — to pull within 61-55 with 40 seconds on the clock.
But that's as close as the Big Green would come as they fell, 67-55.
Victoria Page takes it herself AND ONE! Big Green now back within six at 61-55 in the final minute. Not done yet!
