AIKEN, S.C. – After over a month off, Dartmouth Women's Golf returned to action this weekend, heading to South Carolina for the inaugural ANNIKA Foundation More Than Golf Invitational. The Big Green currently sit in second place (+5) after round one of competition.
Hope Hall led the way for the Big Green as she sits tied for first with a 72 (-1) following day one. She scored five birdies in her first ten holes, playing a huge role in getting the Big Green out to a hot start, Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf
Alex Kirk said.
Olivia Cong, who sits tied for third overall alongside teammate Hall, sunk her first career hole in one, a 170-yard shot on hole four, also helped the team start strong. Cong added two birdies in round one as well.
Sophie Thai finished the first day of competition with a 75 (+2), sitting in 13
th. She hit three birdies on the day.
Lauren Pham, competing as an individual, also finished the day with a 75 (+2). While Pham sits tied with Thai for 13
th place, her score does not count towards the team's.
Caroline Chung is the next Big Green on the leaderboard, sitting in 25
th. Chung shot a 78 (+5) on the day, also tallying three birdies.
Alissa Xu rounds out the Big Green, posting an 80 (+7) following Round 1.
"Old Barnwell is an amazing course, it has room to drive the ball," Kirk said. "But the approaches are very challenging to score. You need to be below the hole or in the proper tier."
Despite the challenges, the Big Green not only sit in second place as a team, but led all 12 teams in Par 3 and Par 4 scoring through Round 1.
"I am happy with the start," Kirk said. "We have two more days to learn and improve our scores."
Round 2 of the inaugural ANNIKA Foundation More Than Golf Invitational will tee off on Saturday, followed by Round 3 on Sunday.
