HANOVER, N.H.—No. 75 Dartmouth men's tennis opened Ivy League play on Sunday afternoon against No. 14 Harvard at Boss Tenn Center. Dartmouth took an early lead but fell 4-3 to the Crimson.
Doubles
Alex Knox-Jones and Denny Bao started the day strong for the Big Green. The duo improved to 5-0 on the season together with a 6-3 win in third doubles.
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and Waleed Qadir played first doubles for the Big Green. The Dartmouth duo fell 7-5 as the doubles point came down to second doubles.
Henry Ren and Miles Groom battled for the point in a tight match in second doubles. The duo came away with the win to give the Big Green the doubles point. Ren and Groom notched their third win of the season with a 7-6 win.
Singles
Knox-Jones completed another 2-0 day for the Big Green as he notched the first singles win for the Big Green. He played in the fifth position and won his ninth match of the spring. He took the opening set 6-2 before completing the sweep with a 6-4 win in the second set.
Qadir picked up his fifth win of the spring with a win in sixth singles. He won the first set 6-4 to take an early lead but Harvard responded with a 6-2 win in the second set. Qadir responded and won the third set 6-4 to take the win.
Guerrero Alvarez played first singles for the Big Green. The senior battled in the first set but fell 6-4. He looked to force a third set but he fell 6-3.
Groom played a back and forth fourth singles match on Sunday. He fell 6-4 in the opening set of the match but came back with a 6-3 win in the second set. He looked for his team leading 13th win of the season but fell 6-2 in the third set.
Ren was slotted in second singles on Sunday. He played a strong match against the Crimson as he took the first set 6-2. The second set was a back and forth tight set with Harvard tying the match at a set apiece following a 7-6 win. Ren ultimately fell 6-3 as Harvard tied the overall match at three.
The match came down to third singles on Sunday. Dartmouth's Hikaru Takeda was slotted in third singles. The first set went the way of Harvard 7-6 but Takeda answered with a 7-6 win of his own in the second set. The third set was another close set but Harvard took the set 6-4.
Dartmouth hits the road for a pair of Ivy League matches next weekend. The Big Green take on Penn in Philadelphia on Saturday before traveling to Princeton on Sunday to take on the Tigers.
